SOLUTIONS TO YOUR KNEE PAIN

EXPERT CARE IN RICHMOND, VA

Whether you play competitive sports or walk or run for exercise, healthy joints are important, especially weight-bearing joints like the knees. The knee is a hinge joint that consists of ligaments, tendons, cartilage, bursae, bone, synovial membrane and muscles. All of these components work together to support the body during times of strenuous physical activity, and even while simply standing still.

There are many causes of knee pain such as an acute injury, an overuse injury or an underlying condition like arthritis that causes swelling or inflammation in the joints. KNEE PAIN TREATMENT

POSSIBLE CAUSES OF KNEE PAIN:

When knee cartilage damage (known as chondromalacia) occurs suddenly from an injury or from deterioration over a period of years. It limits the knee’s normal movement and can cause significant pain. If cartilage damage is not treated, it can worsen and eventually become knee arthritis.

Knee arthritis (known as Osteoarthritis) is one of the most common causes of knee pain and typically affects patients as they get older. Knee arthritis occurs when the cartilage and meniscus wear down in the space between the bones. Dr. Goradia will review nonsurgical treatment options for knee arthritis with you and only recommend a partial or total knee replacement if absolutely needed.

Patellofemoral Knee Pain is a common knee condition that causes pain in front of the knee and around the kneecap. Cartilage damage under the kneecap is often due to injury or overuse and can cause pain, swelling, catching, locking or giving way of the knee. Conservative measures, such as rest, are often used to treat this condition.

One of the most common knee injuries is to the ACL, or anterior cruciate ligament. This is typically a sprain or an ACL tear with different levels of severity. Athletes who participate in sports like soccer, football and basketball are more likely to injure their ACL. However, active patients may also tear their ACL during recreational sports, hobbies or even at work. Most people with an injured ACL require surgery to restore full function of the knee; otherwise, the knee may continue to “give-way” and cause damage to other structures such as the meniscus and cartilage.

A torn meniscus is one of the most common knee injuries. Athletes are typically at higher risk for meniscal tears, but anyone at any age can tear a meniscus. The two most common causes of a meniscus tear are due to traumatic injury and degenerative processes. Meniscal tears require excision of the torn segment which can be done with arthroscopic surgery.

Don’t just take our word for it – listen to what your neighbors have to say about our nationally recognized care team.

“Wonderful facility & wonderful surgery team. I had knee surgery and could not be happier with the results prior, during and after. Doctor Goradia is great!!”

Jay Jay, Google Review
“Dr. Goradia had done my ACL replacement in 2019 and everything healed up fantastically well, so I called to see him when my other knee started bothering me this week. I was able to get an appt. the day after I called. Everyone was friendly and professional, just like Dr. G. After xrays, and physical examination, we ruled out surgery, discussed treatment (cortisone shot and home PT exercises) and I was on my way! Feeling better already the next day and I’ll be back on the tennis courts this weekend. I highly recommend this practice!”
Lilia D., Google Review

“At first, I went to an orthopedic practice close to home. I felt more like a number than a patient. A close friend recommended I see Dr.Goradia for a second opinion. The great staff and personalized treatment I received at G2 made the drive from Brandermill to Chester worth it. After having knee surgery with Dr.Goradia, I am back on my exercise bike.”
